Sameer supports senior banking executives across Asia on a range of strategic risk management and advanced analytics topics. He leads Risk Dynamics in Asia, and is a member of McKinsey’s Risk & Resilience Practice leadership on the continent.

Background

Sameer has served some of the largest regional banking clients in Asia, and has also helped clients build greenfield businesses. He has worked extensively in emerging markets, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

He has deep experience across core risk management topics such as credit risk, collections, advanced analytics, alternate data, balance sheet and capital management. He is also deeply experienced in small- and medium-enterprise banking, and digital business building.

Examples of his recent client work:

  • Supporting one of the largest regional banks in Asia on multiple risk management initiatives. Sameer helped the client develop a wholesale banking operating model that spanned front-end units, product customization, and sector-specific underwriting models. He also assisted in building greenfield banking operations, scaling of wholesale operations, and launching of commercial and retail businesses
  • Supporting one of the largest public sector banks in Southeast Asia on a bank-wide transformation, including all businesses, and covering sales, products, operations, and risk
  • Advising an Australian bank on a greenfield market-entry strategy
  • Helping one of the largest private banks in Southeast Asia develop a customer-centric risk architecture, including designing credit scorecards, processes, and policies for all retail banking products
Prior to joining McKinsey in 2008, Sameer served banks as a senior manager, head of analytics, and regional quality manager. He has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He holds a Six Sigma black belt.
